Buchterkirch, Armin(American, 1859-1915)
An American Impressionist painter and illustrator, Armin Buchterkirch studied art in New York and lived and worked in both Corning and Rochester for most of his career. His many fine scenes of the villages and countryside of the Bahamas are now considered a valuable artistic and historical record of these islands at the turn of the century. Armin Buchterkirch was a full member of the Rochester Art Club. Today examples of his fine art are included in the permanent collections of many major museums, including the Smithsonian American Art Museum, Washington, DC, and the Peabody Essex Museum, Salem, Massachusetts.
