| | Gorbachev, Yuri | (Russian, 1948-Present) |
|
| | Yuri Gorbachev’s career began in the former USSR making ceramics. His transition to the canvas resulted in incredible success and he is now famed for his expressive and energetic images influenced by his home country. Another large influence in the artist’s life comes from the Far East, to which he traveled before coming to America. He now resides in New York City and incorporates these three cultures – Russian, American, and Asian – in his paintings. | | He uses unusual techniques derived from his extensive work with ceramics to create colorful, textured canvases in oil and gold. In his paintings, you will always find humor and a joyous, positive energy reflecting the rich cultures from which he derives. | | His work is displayed in the permanent collections of the Louvre, the Kremlin Museum, The Tsarskoye Selo, The United Nations and The White House and more than twenty museums worldwide. | | Works cited: | | http://www.yurigorbachev.com/indexn.html | | http://www.operagallery.com/artist/GORBACHEV_50;0;0.aspx |
