Jarvie, Robert R.(American, 20th Century)
A Chicago metalworker of the Arts and Crafts movement of the early 20th Century, Robert Riddle Jarvie created simple but stunning candlesticks and silver serving vessels that have captured the public’s attention since their creation. The subject of multiple books, his candlesticks are said to have reinvigorated the art form and provided a delightful alternative to designs of the past. Other pieces such as a decorative pitcher are held in collections such as the Art Institute of Chicago. His reputation as a Chicago metalsmith is enhanced by his borrowing from both the art nouveau and prairie styles popular during his creative period. The craftsmanship and attention to detail are clearly visible in his work, making his pieces sturdy yet elegant.
