| | Peck, Fay | (American, 20th Century) |
|
| | Although little is known about Fay Peck, this work is representative of Expressionism and Cubism, artistic movements of the 20th century. Expressionism is a form in which objects depicted subjectively, in an attempt to convey emotion through brushstrokes. Cubism is an avant-garde art movement, pioneered by Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque in which objects are broken down, analyzed, and reassembled to create an abstracted form, which depicts an object from multiple points of view as opposed to a single viewpoint. Both Expressionism and Cubism are present to varying degrees in Peck’s Curious Coffee in the abstracted forms and rich brushwork evident in this piece. |
