Ponsen, Tunis (Netherlands b.1891)
Tunis Ponsen was born in the Netherlands in 1891 and emigrated to Muskegon, Michigan in 1913. Ponsen moved to Chicago in 1924 where he attended the Art Institute and strengthened his skills as an artist. He would paint landscapes, cityscapes, still life’s, and portraits. He was regularly exhibited in museums where critics regularly praised his works.
Tunis Ponsen’s paintings are highly collectable today. A traveling exhibition of 52 Ponsen paintings set attendence records at seven museums in the Midwest. Ponsen’s works are characterized by their modern Dutch style that are very poetic and beautiful.
