| | Born in Harmanec, Czechoslovakia (now central Slovakia) in 1875, Antonin Sterba lived and worked primarily in Chicago, Illinois up to his death in 1963. He studied at the School of the Art Institute and the Art Academy in Chicago. Upon receiving the Gold Medal of Honor at the Art Academy, he moved to Paris where he studied for several years before returning to Chicago. He became a member of the faculty at the Art Institute of Chicago in 1910. He has had exhibits at the Corcoran Gallery in Washington D.C., Pennsylvania Academy in Philadelphia, and the Art Institute of Chicago. His works typically feature exotic and brightly colored landscapes or villa scenes characterized by vibrant blues and yellows. |
