Vanderpoel, John Henry(Dutch/American, 1857-1913)
John Henry Vanderpoel was born in Holland and schooled as an artist in Paris. After immigrating to the United States and settling in Chicago, Vanderpoel joined the Chicago Society of Artists and created murals for the College Theatre of Chicago. The artist had a long association with the Art Institute of Chicago and was revered for his fine drawing instruction. Vanderpoel was also the author of The Human Figure, an art instruction manual.
