Vonnoh, Bessie Potter(American, 1872-1955)
A female sculptor and painter who worked widely with bronze, Bessie Potter Vonnoh is noted for her unique treatment of women, specifically of the mother-and- child theme. Avoiding the religious and mythological themes usually evoked while portraying motherhood, Vonnoh chose rather to illustrate the depth of experience found in everyday life. Vonnoh’s sculptures are in the collections of the Art Institute of Chicago, the Brooklyn Museum, the National Museum of Women in the Arts and the US Senate Art Collection.
