| | Wenlch, Lucy Kemp | (British, 1869-1958) |
|
| | Lucy Kemp-Welch was born on July 14, 1906 in Cadogan Gardens, Enlgland. She was a renowned horse painter, whose huge canvases took the art world by storm at the turn of the century. More than any other British painter, she captured the unbroken spirit of horses. During the Boer War and the First World War Lucy became fascinated by cavalry horses, which she painted both on the battlefield and at exercise. In later life she traveled with Sanger's circus, producing paintings full of life and energy both behind the scenes and in the ring. |
