| | Westfeld, Max | (German, Early 20th Century) |
|
| | Little is known about this early 20th century oil painter. Most of his artwork involve landscape or still life. His Sommerliche Landschaft mit Mittelgebirgszügen im Hintergrund from 1929 employs characteristics of Impressionist paintings. Born in 1882, Westfeld grew up surrounded by artists who had cultivated Impressionism and Post-Impressionism as well as artists innovating a new kind of modernist art. Westfeld, however, continued to work within the Impressionist style of emphasizing ephemeral qualities of light and atmosphere. His paintings of ordinary objects and landscapes often accentuated visible brush strokes that emphasize movement. |
